How I Reclaimed My Personal Style in My 30s (and You Can Too)
No more overwhelm, no more guesswork, no more blah style, because I finally unlocked my personal style. Hope you do it too!
Can we be real for a second? Hitting your 30s, especially as a mom, can feel like a tornado. We’re juggling kids, careers, relationships—oh, and trying to remember the last time you really felt like yourself in the middle of it all.
For me, it took a while to find my personal style. Between the sleepless nights and endless to-do lists, fashion felt like something “past me.” But here’s the thing I’ve discovered: having a personal style isn’t about looking trendy. It’s about reconnecting with yourself, especially when life feels overwhelming.
According to psychologists, personal style is closely linked to self-expression. In a study published in the Journal of Research in Personality, individuals who dress in a way that aligns with their personality are more likely to feel confident and have higher self-esteem.
What is Personal Style?
For years, I most closely identified personal style as a gifted trait, like you know what to wear. Until I finally dug deeper to reinvent it with science. It’s not about copying the latest fashion influencer or squeezing into something that doesn't feel you.
Personal style is an extension of your personality—it’s what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and like the best version of yourself. When your clothes reflect who you are, you feel in control no matter how chaotic life gets.
The 30s Reality: Style + Motherhood
Here comes the reality. It's so easy to be a giver than a taker. And this is what we all end up doing. But sans your real personality, are you even living?
Yoga pants and oversized tees are easy, but do they make you feel alive? You deserve to feel good in what you wear, even on your busiest days.
So, instead of resting your style comfortably in the backseat, let your life go on with more confidence and excitement. Because you are dressing up for the day. And trust me, when you find a style that works for you, it’s like a little boost of confidence to carry you through.
A Simple Exercise to Rediscover Your Style
Let’s start with a fun exercise. Take a quiet 10 minutes (yes, they do exist!). Grab your phone or scroll through old photos—those moments where you felt amazing, even before kids. What were you wearing? What colors, fits, or accessories lit you up?
Now, start a Pinterest board (I know, cliché, but it works!). Pin things that catch your eye, but don’t overthink it. The goal is to find patterns in what you're drawn to.
Here’s the golden rule: if you wouldn’t wear it to your next casual brunch and a school run, it’s not your vibe.
Tips to Get Started:
Declutter your wardrobe: If it doesn’t fit or you haven’t worn it in 6 months, let it go. We’re building a collection, not clutter.
Stick to a color palette: Pick 3-5 colors that flatter you and mix and match easily.
Invest in key pieces: A flattering pair of jeans, a versatile jacket, and a go-to dress. You don’t need a million things, just a few that make you feel incredible.
Find inspiration: Follow a few fashion accounts that feel relatable, not aspirational. The goal is real-life style, not runway fantasy.
